To all my non-comic reading friends out there, there’s a rather interesting little celebration going on across the nation this Saturday — Free Comic Book Day.” On this day, comic shops across North America give away a crap load of free comics and throw parties and signings and little events and generally have a great time. CBR finally got on board in a big way last year when we had mobile bloggers from 10 different cities sending photos in to CBR Live!, plus our live coverage of the Image Comics founders signing at Atomic Comics in Phoenix, Arizona. Well, we’re doing something similar this year, which I’ll likely announce fully Wednesday on CBR. If you’ve never been to one of these events, I highly encourage you to — it’s really a lot of fun.

So, first was getting the blog working properly again. What’s next? Twitter, I guess.
Not sure what I’ll do with it yet, but I’m on twitter now. If tweeting (I prefer twiting, but whatever) is your thing, I’m at http://www.twitter.com/jonahweiland.
Don’t even tell me you could have guessed that.

As I mentioned earlier, I’m heading to Paris and Amsterdam in just about two weeks from today. While I’ve been thinking about this trip for some time now, as I was doing some investigating into airfare the other day I realized that the time period of the 13th through 21st was really the only time I could go out of town for a prolonged period of time prior to Comic-Con International in late July. The beginning of June is going to be busy with set-up for a new feature on CBR, which I need to be around for throughout the month. Plus, June is when we really begin planning for Comic-Con in earnest. And while I would have loved to travel over Memorial Day weekend, I want to be home that day. So, it had to be then.
I’ve never been to either city and would absolutely love any and all suggestions on places to go, things to see, food to check out, etc. — do you have a favorite cafe in Paris I must visit? Leave a comment! Do you have a favorite coffee shop in Amsterdam? Let me know! I know the obvious choices such as the Eifel Tower, the Louvre, the Van Gogh museum, the Rembrant museum, etc. — how about those places off the beaten path you think I’ll enjoy?
The person who offers up the best suggestion will get a present from my trip, so let’s hear ‘em!

My good friend Stephen Gerding upgraded this here blog today without any problems — I thought it would be a real hassle since I was running such an old version of WordPress, but Stephen managed the upgrade quite nicely.
This means commenting is back on and I’ll be doing more blogging and what not. And it’s time for me to join the rest of the world with Twitter. All in good time. Right now it’s back to work.
Thanks, Stephen!

So, this blog is kinda messed up. I’m running an old version of WordPress and it needs to be upgraded badly, thus why the commenting has been broken for so long. And I sorta just stopped caring and kinda sorta stopped writing.
But I’ve decided to change that and there will be more of the writing. That’ll ramp up on May 13th when I leave for eight days in Europe. Paris and Amsterdam definitely, a day side-trip to London is a possibility. It’s my first out of the country vacation since my trip to China in September of 2005. This is sorely needed.
In the coming days we’ll get these here blog relaunched — it’ll likely look mostly the same, but to change things up a bit I’ll populate new photos in the title bar. I’ve got some classic family photos that I discovered recently I’ll share.
In the mean time, I’m going to want your suggestions on fun or off the wall things to do in Amsterdam and Paris. I’ve got the books and doing my research, but suggestions are always the best way to go. So save some ideas up, if you will.
