Some Rain Would Be Nice

Posted by Jonah Weiland in General -

I love Los Angeles. I really do. It’s an infinitely bizarre town filled with bizarre people and bizarre things to do (pro ping pong anyone?). When I visit other cities in other countries, I usually find my appreciate for the City of Angels grows ever so much more. Especially for the weather. I like to say that LA is a city that has 300 days of 75 degrees and sunny. That’s almost totally accurate. This year it might be more like 330 days at the rate we’re going.

Reports are that this could be the driest year ever in the region. Thus far, we’ve had less than 2.5 inches of rain. That’s ridiculous. As much as all of us here in Los Angeles like the excellent weather, that allows us to enjoy the beach year round, we also appreciate the cleansing effect of rain. It clears out the air. Greens up lawns and the surrounding mountains. It clears the trash off the streets, letting them flow into the waters of Santa Monica, pissing the fuck out of uppity Westside LA residents. It’s a wonderful thing. Plus, it’s nice to mix things up in a while — believe it or not, constant sun gets to be a drag after a while.

So, if there are any Native Americans reading this — cmon, a rain dance wouldn’t hurt you.

Good thing you aren’t here then. We have cities that have water reserves down to 30% and if winter doesn’t provide a lot more than average rain then they’ll run out completely by February.

The air outside tonight was very moist, almost as though it was threatening to rain, but it didn’t happen.

Well, we just had 7 – 10 inches of rain here at the beginning of the week. You can have some of that, if you like. The Raritan River, amongst others, has plenty to give.
