Thanksbirthgiving Day

Posted by Jonah Weiland in General

Every six years or so, my birthday lands on Thanksgiving Day. That was the case this year.

When I was a child, I hated when my birthday landed on Thanksgiving – it meant all my friends would be with their families and I had no chance to hang out with them. Certainly a self-fish response, but hey, I was a kid.

When I hit my twenties, I realized how great it was to have my birthday fall on Thanksgiving. It means I get to celebrate my birthday the night before with a bunch of friends and then on my birthday I get to enjoy one of the greatest meals of the year. Turkey, stuffing, potatoes, yams, good wine, pumpkin pie and birthday cake – that’s the best birthday meal there is! This Thanksgiving, it was all about me!

So, Happy Birthday to me! And Happy Thanksgiving to all of you

“Studio 60” – It’s Alive!

Posted by Jonah Weiland in General

Interestingly, after my last post in which I took “Studio 60” to task, I watched the latest episode “Nevada Day” and was floored – Sorkin was back! The episode was very engaging and funny. John Goodman as a small town Nevada judge was brilliant. Steven Webber was given some very meaty stuff to play with and, well, came through in spades. “This is a black American Express Card…” His entrances are always classic. Nate Cordry was finally given something to do other than be a sight gag or be angry with his father. All in all, a very promising episode which made me feel like the show had fully gelled for the first time this season.

Now comes word that the show has received a full season commitment from NBC. Fox News ran a rumor that the show was dead and clearly they were wrong. I’m hoping Sorkin writes this whole charade into a future episode – could be a lot of fun.

Congrats to the cast. I was concerned that just as I had a glimmer of hope for the series that it was approaching its demise. Now, we can see if that promise can grow.

Oh, and Aaron – more Steven Webber!
